Job Description

Job Summary:

The Construction Controller is a key member of the Chelsea Investment Corp team, responsible for overseeing all construction-related accounting operations. This includes accurate and timely financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, as well as variance analysis and treasury functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounting Operations: Oversee accounting operations, including establishing accounting policies and procedures to ensure all financial transactions are controlled, executed, and documented according to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial reports that accurately summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Create budgets and forecasting to analyze cash flow, identify trends, and track variances to mitigate risk and enhance the company's financial results.
  • Financial Integrity: Supervise and monitor the financial integrity of the general ledger and financial accounting and reporting systems.
  • Supporting Schedules: Set up and maintain supporting schedules for balance sheet accounts.
  • Recommendations: Recommend distributions based on available cash and anticipated future cash requirements.
  • Financial Statement Review: Lead the financial statement review and assist with tax return filings, including preparation of support schedules as requested by the CPA firm.
  • Books and Records: Establish books and recording for new entities and maintain business organizational charts.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Team Supervision: Act as a supervisor, mentor, and instructor for accounting team members.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar field.
  • Experience: At least eight (8) years of progressively responsible financial leadership roles, with at least five (5) years in the construction industry, and at least three (3) years of directly supervising construction accounting team members; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill, and abilities have been attained.
  • Designations: CPA and/or CCIFP designation is preferred.
  • Skills: Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and accounting functions, proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), and proficiency using Sage 300 CRE, Procore, and/or Textura.
  • Attributes: Extremely organized with ingrained ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment, keen attention to detail with focused adherence to strict deadlines and procedures, sound problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to exercise sound independent judgment, high level of integrity and dependability, including handling sensitive and confidential information, teamwork mindset and temperament to work effectively with a diverse group of people, effective ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, genuine desire to work in the real estate development affordable housing industry, personal accountability, and enthusiasm for achieving company goals.
