Department Overview

The Department of Finance & Procurement plays a crucial role in ensuring that the county's financial management and accounting frameworks are effectively maintained. This department guarantees that both county agencies and the public receive timely financial information. The Division of Accounting, Finance and Operations oversees internal auditing, compliance, financial accounting, budgetary reporting, internal controls, payroll, and accounts payable.

Position Summary

We are currently seeking a meticulous and analytical professional to join our team as a Senior Accountant. This role is temporary and is part of the transition from Oracle EBS to Oracle Cloud, expected to last for two years. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Accounting Manager and will take charge of the financial reporting and accounting related to the county's capital projects, grants, and debt management. Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing projects and analyzing capital and grant funds along with revenue sources.
  • Classifying and closing projects, performing reconciliations, and assisting with the annual audit and year-end close.
  • Collaborating across departments to address complex project issues.
  • Supporting ad-hoc projects and analyses.
  • Preparing journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Conducting research and preparing work papers to support the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
  • Contributing to various departmental functions as required.

This position offers a hybrid work environment with opportunities for telecommuting.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline, along with four (4) years of relevant professional accounting experience, preferably within a governmental context, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred qualifications include CPA, CPFO, and VGFOA certifications, as well as completion of GAAP courses. Familiarity with major ERP systems, particularly Oracle, is also desirable.

Strong collaboration skills are essential, as this role involves working closely with various team members to achieve shared objectives. The ability to build relationships both internally and externally will be vital for success in this position.
