Job Overview

We are seeking a Human Resources Specialist to provide comprehensive HR and benefits administrative support. This position is crucial in managing various HR functions including benefits management, payroll processing, workers' compensation, staffing, recruitment, and the general administration of HR policies and practices. The Specialist will actively evaluate and suggest improvements to moderately complex HR practices while ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies. The ideal candidate will possess a keen attention to detail, a strong customer service orientation, and a solid understanding of HR practices and legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee benefits administration, including responding to inquiries, completing necessary documentation, conducting employee training, facilitating new hire orientation, and managing open enrollment processes.
  • Administer payroll functions, including time entry, tax calculations, wage processing, and handling garnishments.
  • Conduct screening and interviewing processes, and provide recommendations for hiring decisions.
  • Assess the effectiveness of recruitment and selection strategies and propose enhancements.
  • Complete necessary documentation, investigate incidents, and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Coordinate various employee programs, including health fairs, recognition events, and other employee engagement activities.
  • Process HR and payroll-related changes, conduct profit-sharing reviews, and advise management on merit pay and job classification.
  • Collaborate with management to evaluate skills and competencies, recommending development plans and performance management strategies.
  • Facilitate training sessions for existing employees on topics such as OSHA regulations and workplace conduct.
  • Assist in resolving employee and supervisor conflicts.
  • Support the onboarding process for new hires.
  • Evaluate and manage FMLA and salary plan programs, as well as employee council issues.
  • Investigate and recommend improvements to complex HR processes, including discipline application, workers' compensation, and performance evaluations.
Qualifications
  • In-depth knowledge of HR programs including benefits, payroll, and compensation.
  • Strong understanding of HR laws and regulations.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to assertively engage with employees and management.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with all levels of staff.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build trusting relationships.
  • Must demonstrate diplomacy and tact.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in HR, benefits, or payroll administration.
  • HR certification is preferred (e.g., PHR, SPHR).
