Position Overview

As a vital member of the Minneapolis Animal Care & Control (MACC), you will deliver essential veterinary services to animals housed within the shelter. Your role will encompass both routine and emergency medical care, ensuring the health and well-being of our shelter residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough examinations, diagnose conditions, and administer both routine and emergency treatments, including vaccinations and controlled substances.

• Perform necessary surgical procedures, including sterilizations, to promote animal welfare.

• Adhere to all legal and regulatory requirements concerning the storage and use of controlled substances, maintaining accurate records.

• Prepare specimens for testing related to rabies and other diseases, ensuring compliance with health standards.

• Provide training and guidance to staff regarding animal health and welfare issues.

• Maintain the overall health of the facility and its live-in animals.

• Engage in community outreach initiatives, such as vaccination clinics, to promote public health and animal welfare.

• Communicate effectively with the public regarding the treatment needs of animals.

• Prepare detailed reports for investigations related to animal cruelty and provide expert testimony when necessary.

• Carry out euthanasia procedures as directed by shelter management.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent.

• A minimum of two years of clinical experience as a licensed veterinarian.

• Valid Veterinarian License in Minnesota and eligibility for DEA Registration.

• Valid Driver's License.

Selection Process: The selection process may include evaluations of relevant education and experience, along with an oral examination. It is crucial that your application reflects all pertinent qualifications.

Background Check: A criminal background check may be required for this position.

Drug and Alcohol Testing: Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

Union Representation: This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
