Position Overview:

The Energy Systems Engineer is responsible for the conception, proposal, development, budgeting, and management of the delivery of technical products for commercial and industrial programs. This role requires collaboration within small teams to ensure successful project execution.

Key responsibilities include conducting applied systems assessments, performing detailed analyses, and engaging in research that leads to preliminary designs and economic modeling of various distributed energy systems.

Projects focus on enhancing performance, improving energy efficiency, optimizing economics, advancing decarbonization efforts, and leveraging cost-effective renewable energy resources.

Candidates should demonstrate the capability to transition into a leadership role or possess a combination of enthusiasm and relevant experience that allows for effective training in this capacity.


Essential Skills:

Proficient project and program management, advanced systems analysis and modeling, technical research, report writing and editing, training development and delivery, along with the professional ability to provide technical consultations on a wide range of commercial and industrial technologies.

As part of the US Department of Energy's Onsite Energy Technical Assistance Partnership, the candidate will be tasked with preparing successful proposals and reports for funding agencies, negotiating agreements, and managing program budgets.


Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant energy engineering discipline along with three (3) years of professional engineering experience is required.
  • A Master's degree in a relevant energy engineering discipline may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
  • A Professional Engineer's license may be necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registration as a professional engineer in the State of Washington.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Experience analyzing commercial and industrial facilities for combined heat and power system potential.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with energy system performance analysis software, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
  • Knowledge of potential funding sources and experience in proposal development.
  • Experience in an industrial setting.

About the Role:

The Energy Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting the industrial sector and large energy users in their transition to onsite clean energy technologies as part of their decarbonization strategies. This includes providing technical assistance, conducting market analyses to identify clean energy opportunities, evaluating current assessment tools for onsite energy technologies, and developing comprehensive technical reports and resources.
