The Performance Improvement (PI) Specialist serves as a vital resource in enhancing operational efficiency. This role demands a deep understanding of process enhancement, team leadership, coaching, and effective change management. Acting as an internal advisor across all hospital levels, the PI Specialist is the primary liaison for designated service lines and departments.
The PI Specialist is responsible for implementing the organization’s quality enhancement initiatives utilizing various quality tools and methodologies. This includes expert facilitation, collaborative efforts, and advanced process improvement techniques. Initial evaluations of local operations will be conducted, leading to the development of prioritized action plans.
Regular meetings will be facilitated to ensure continuous improvement of key performance metrics. Additionally, the PI Specialist will leverage data-driven decision-making tools to support organizational strategies and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. This role is essential in identifying improvement opportunities and enhancing overall organizational performance.
Collaboration with operational and medical leadership is crucial for executing strategies aimed at improving processes and outcomes. The PI Specialist is well-versed in accreditation and certification requirements, identifying gaps, and supporting necessary survey processes. Updates regarding initiative progress will be provided to facility leadership as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Possess a degree in Nursing, Industrial Engineering, or a related Master's degree, coupled with 3-5 years of relevant clinical experience or 1-3 years in process improvement.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a hospital setting is essential.
- 1-3 years of experience in performance improvement is preferred.
- Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma, along with skills in data collection and analysis, is advantageous.
- If applicable, a valid RN license is required. Candidates with at least 3 years of PI experience must obtain CPHQ certification within one year of hire; if lacking PI experience, CPHQ certification is preferred within three years.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is necessary.
- Experience with databases (e.g., MIDAS) and electronic data warehouses is required.
- Strong data analysis capabilities are essential.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.
- Self-motivated individuals with strong problem-solving skills are preferred.
- A comprehensive understanding of hospital systems and standards of care is important.
- Knowledge of team dynamics and development is crucial.
- Familiarity with adult learning principles is beneficial.
- Ability to facilitate performance improvement teams effectively.
- Exceptional organizational skills for process development and coordination are required.
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage with all staff levels and motivate others are essential.
- Demonstrated strengths in organizational development and the ability to manage diverse tasks in a dynamic environment.
- If applicable, a Registered Nurse (RN) license must be maintained.
