The Performance Improvement (PI) Specialist serves as a pivotal process authority within the organization. This role demands a deep understanding of process enhancement, team leadership, coaching, and change management. Acting as an internal advisor, the PI Specialist collaborates with all levels of the healthcare facility and is the primary liaison for designated service lines and departments.

The PI Specialist is responsible for implementing the organization's quality enhancement initiatives utilizing various quality tools and methodologies, expert facilitation, collaborative efforts, and process improvement strategies. This individual will conduct initial assessments of local operations as assigned and create prioritized action plans to address identified needs.

Regular meetings of Lean model cell teams will be led by the PI Specialist to ensure continuous improvement of key performance indicators. Furthermore, this role involves employing data-driven decision-making tools to support organizational strategies and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

The PI Specialist will identify best practices to uncover improvement opportunities and elevate organizational performance. Collaboration with operational and medical leadership is essential to implement effective strategies for process and outcome enhancements. This individual possesses a comprehensive understanding of accreditation and certification standards, identifies deficiencies, and aids in survey processes while supporting Peer Review initiatives as required.

Updates regarding the progress of initiatives will be communicated to facility leadership or governance as necessary. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess a degree in Nursing, Industrial Engineering, or a related Master's degree, coupled with 3-5 years of relevant clinical experience or 1-3 years in process improvement.
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a hospital setting.
  • Preferably have 1-3 years of experience in performance improvement.
  • Previous experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma, PDSA/PDCA, data collection, and analysis, along with team facilitation skills is advantageous.
  • Hold a valid RN license if applicable; CPHQ certification is required within one year of hire for those with at least 3 years of PI experience, and preferred within three years for those without.
  • Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Be skilled in utilizing databases (e.g., MIDAS) and electronic data warehouses.
  • Possess strong data analysis capabilities.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be self-motivated and possess problem-solving abilities.
  • Have a broad understanding of hospital systems and standards of care.
  • Exhibit strong knowledge of team dynamics and development.
  • Understand adult learning principles.
  • Possess the ability to facilitate performance improvement teams effectively.
  • Maintain exceptional organizational skills for process development and coordination.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, enabling effective interaction with all staff levels and the ability to motivate others.
  • Show proven strengths in organizational development and the capacity to manage diverse activities in a dynamic environment.
  • Maintain a Registered Nurse (RN) license if applicable.
