Job Overview

Barnes & Noble College serves as a retail partner for numerous colleges and universities across the nation. We provide a unique shopping experience that focuses on delivering essential educational materials, tools, and merchandise within a vibrant retail setting on college campuses. Our team engages directly with customers, including students, faculty, administration, alumni, and the general public, to deliver exceptional service while selling or renting books, general merchandise, and a variety of products and services tailored for the academic community.

Our stores offer a wide range of items, from textbooks and trade books to technology, school supplies, apparel, regalia, and food—catering to the needs of college students, their families, and faculty members. Part-time roles require a commitment to work on a weekly basis, including occasional weekends, with flexible scheduling options for morning, midday, or evening shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Welcome customers, respond to inquiries, and assist with the purchase of products or services.
  2. Organize, arrange, and maintain the sales floor to ensure an inviting shopping environment.
  3. Process sales transactions using cash, credit, or financial aid payments.
  4. Temporary positions necessitate availability for weekly shifts for a duration of 90 days or less, including occasional weekends, with flexible scheduling for morning, midday, or evening shifts.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regular movement throughout the store to access various departments and products.
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting of merchandise.
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.

COVID-19 Considerations:

Our stores adhere to all relevant federal, state, and local guidelines regarding social distancing and sanitization. Depending on campus requirements, positions may necessitate proof of vaccination. The use of face masks may also be required during shifts.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be at least 16 years old to qualify for temporary employment.
  • Energetic and friendly demeanor with strong communication skills to interact with diverse individuals.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities to align customers with products that fulfill their needs.
  • Basic skills in mathematics, typing, and data entry.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is essential.
