Compensation: $17.00 (Hourly)

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Facilitate daily activities for children, including assistance with homework, reading, recreational activities, and STEAM projects.
  • Foster an environment that reflects the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Support the development of monthly thematic content.
  • Integrate assigned themes with literacy, homework assistance, character development, and recreational activities.
  • Assist in the scheduling, planning, and execution of educational lessons.
  • Help create a safe, healthy, and inviting atmosphere conducive to learning and emotional growth.
  • Assist in compiling statistics for monthly reporting.
  • Ensure classrooms are maintained and equipped with necessary teaching materials.
  • Oversee volunteer scheduling and commitments.
  • Organize activities for early release days.
  • Report weekly statistics to the supervisor.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of curriculum and material inventory.
  • Prepare snacks as required.
  • Work full-time during the summer to support on-site youth day camp operations.
  • Engage in special projects related to the After-School Program as seasonal needs arise.
  • Ensure adherence to Salvation Army Protecting the Mission (PTM) protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint is preferred.
  • Experience with electronic messaging is required.
  • Basic knowledge of integrated database applications and the ability to learn new software with minimal training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate of Arts Degree or a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Understanding of early childhood curriculum principles and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively with children, parents, guardians, colleagues, and the public.
  • Capability to work with children and families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Computer literate, with proficiency in Salvation Army approved web-based programs and software.
  • Experience in volunteer management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must obtain a Washington State Food Handler's Permit.
  • Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, and mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Complete Protecting the Mission (PTM) training within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files and file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to operate a complex multi-faceted telephone system.
  • Ability to use a desktop and/or laptop computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
  • Ability to comprehend oral and written information.
  • Ability to walk, sit, stand, and bend intermittently and/or continuously.
  • Ability to demonstrate good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly.
  • Ability to see clearly both up close and at a distance.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
