Role Overview

This position is integral to the Blue Origin Engines division, focusing on the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of propulsion systems and engines. Our diverse range of engines is set to power the next generation of rockets across commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight missions.

As a key member of a dedicated team of engineers, you will operate at the nexus of program management, engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and quality assurance. Your role will enhance team effectiveness and coordination, ensuring that the right expertise is applied to overcome challenges and achieve timely results. Responsibilities may include managing the Valves IPT manufacturing team, overseeing project scope, cost, schedule, and risk management, as well as liaising with stakeholders both within and outside the program IPT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans to align with program objectives for builds, testing, and integration.
  • Oversee the manufacturing team's scope, schedule, cost, and resource allocation.
  • Track and report progress to support assembly and acceptance testing.
  • Evaluate the programmatic impact of engineering change requests identified during manufacturing.
  • Facilitate and drive engineering changes in collaboration with upstream and downstream stakeholders.
  • Address unexpected changes to ensure that manufacturing and build activities remain on schedule and within budget while maintaining high quality.
  • Maintain a detailed hardware usage log, tracking location, usage history, maintenance, and life cycle of valve hardware.
  • Review procurement plans for sourced components, ensuring compliance with project scope and budget.
  • Coordinate with procurement and stakeholders to manage hardware and tooling priorities effectively.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, including resolving blockers and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Develop recovery strategies for non-conformances or other issues that arise.
  • Identify critical hardware, equipment, personnel, and facilities to resolve constraints.
  • Report on key project metrics to track progress and performance.

Qualifications

  • A strong passion for Blue Origin's mission of enabling human life in space.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the aerospace sector, including component fabrication, precision assembly, and testing.
  • Experience in a Project Engineer or Project Manager role.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Adept at troubleshooting and quick decision-making to keep projects on track.
  • Proven ability to build trusting relationships that enhance team performance.
  • Familiarity with configuration management principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to foster positive and professional relationships within a diverse team.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in complex component development and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic valve design, testing, and manufacturing.
  • Experience with configuration management systems in an engineering environment.
  • Ability to create tools for improving documentation and tracking work scope.
  • Experience leading a small technical team.
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as P6.
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
