Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Specialist II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine, journey-level work in one or more building maintenance and construction trades.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections, adjustments, installations, and repairs to facility buildings and residential homes, including adaptive equipment, wheelchair ramps, safety equipment, doors, windows, and utility systems.
  • Maintain and repair buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment, dependent on the trade involved, and operate motorized equipment.
  • Complete paperwork and maintain work order records, and communicate verbally and in writing with other members of the maintenance/facility team.
  • Work as a team member with other shops and employees, and may be required to perform other tasks, including operation of a motor vehicle, making deliveries, picking up supplies, and other incidental tasks.
Requirements
  • Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
  • Performs inspections, adjustments, maintenance, and repair work on building systems in accordance with recognized codes and standards for various trades, including plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, painting, and electrical.
  • Uses hand tools or equipment while performing repairs or inspections, and follows directions in performance of duties.
  • Performs repairs and renovations to modernize a building, building system, or adapt it to new uses, and identifies necessary information such as time required to perform repair/renovation and physical location of necessary repair/renovation.
  • Uses hand tools, power tools, test, and safety equipment as necessary to perform needed repairs/renovations/installations, and accurately processes and maintains records on work orders, projects, and material requisitions.
  • May operate heavy machinery, such as backhoes, forklifts, etc., as necessary, and may train others on the proper procedures and methods for repairs or inspections.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, sanitation, refrigeration, and/or electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety, fire, and safety regulations.
  • Skill in preventive maintenance, inspections of buildings and building systems.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform maintenance, follow instructions, and interpret drawings, schematics, or sketches.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally or in writing with other members of the maintenance/facility team.
