Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Specialist II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine, journey-level work in one or more building maintenance and construction trades, including carpentry, masonry, painting, and more.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform inspections, adjustments, installations, and repairs to facility buildings and residential homes, including adaptive equipment, wheelchair ramps, safety equipment, doors, windows, and more.
  • Maintain and repair buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment, dependent on the trade involved.
  • Operate motorized equipment and complete paperwork and maintain work order records.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with other members of the maintenance/facility team.
  • Work as a team member with other shops and employees, and may be required to perform other tasks, including operation of a motor vehicle, making deliveries, picking up supplies, and more.

Requirements:
  • Knowledge of building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, sanitation, refrigeration, and/or electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety, fire, and safety regulations.
  • Skill in preventive maintenance, inspections of buildings and building systems.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform maintenance, follow instructions, and interpret drawings, schematics, or sketches.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally or in writing with other members of the maintenance/facility team.

Working Conditions:
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with moderate supervision and limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The successful candidate will be required to attend work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy. May serve in an on-call status on a rotating schedule as required to meet operational needs of the facility.
