Purpose:

Oversees service operations within the dealership to enhance return on investment by refining Service Department procedures, ensuring satisfaction for both internal and external customers.

Drives profitable service labor sales while maintaining strict expense management. Attracts, retains, and effectively engages department personnel.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages the complete work order cycle, from generation to invoicing for both customer and internal tasks.
  • Promotes service labor and parts sales, ensuring high productivity among technicians to meet budgets and objectives.
  • Collaborates with the Service Manager to identify and implement ongoing process enhancements.
  • Communicates, enforces, and monitors effective Service Department protocols to guarantee customer satisfaction.
  • Schedules and assigns tasks and work areas to employees based on their skills and expertise.
  • Reviews work orders for thoroughness and accuracy prior to customer billing.
  • Ensures all service warranty and product improvement initiatives are completed and submitted in a timely manner to maximize credit.
  • Maintains all departmental tools, equipment, and vehicles in optimal working condition.
  • Actively seeks and participates in available company-sponsored training to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Fosters a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a steadfast commitment to teamwork and exceptional customer service.
  • Upholds the company's reputation and image in the community in alignment with core values.
Experience, Education, Skills, and Knowledge:

Minimum of 1 year of experience in Service Department operations.


  • Proficient in standard desktop applications such as Microsoft Office and internet-based functions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities to guide a team and ensure accountability.
  • Familiarity with John Deere and competitive products.
  • Basic understanding of financial principles related to Service Department operations.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret internal reports.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
  • Excellent customer service capabilities.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Physical Effort: Service Writers often conduct inspections on machinery, which requires physical demands. Must be able to maneuver around and under machines for inspections and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted. Occasional visits to agriculture/construction sites with irregular terrain may be required.
Working Conditions:

As a Service Writer, frequent visits to the service and repair shop are necessary to perform various tasks. The shop environment may present hazardous conditions, including exposure to dirt, grease, fumes, and loud noises. Adherence to strict safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential.


Wage:
$20.00 – $27.00 hourly with bonus potential
