Supervision Structure

This role operates under the general oversight of the Public Information Supervisor.

Position Summary

The Legislative Outreach Specialist is responsible for monitoring, reporting, and coordinating grassroots legislative initiatives at both local and state levels on behalf of NLACRC. This position plays a vital role in facilitating community outreach and events in collaboration with stakeholders. Responsibilities include managing social media engagement, assisting with website updates, and developing both print and digital media to support legislative tracking and agency projects.

  • Manage and coordinate social media initiatives while developing and executing a comprehensive social media strategy.
  • Analyze proposed legislation and identify key bills relevant to the Department of Developmental Services and Regional Centers.
  • Provide research, analysis, and strategic advice regarding significant legislative activities.
  • Engage with local and state legislators throughout the year to discuss proposed legislation, funding, and issues impacting the Regional Center system.
  • Participate in NLACRC's Board of Trustees committee meetings to coordinate legislative efforts.
  • Prepare and submit monthly updates on legislative activities to the Executive Leadership and Governing Board.
  • Organize and oversee NLACRC's Annual Legislative Breakfast.
  • Attend scheduled meetings of the Association of Regional Center Agencies.
  • Assist in the development and execution of outreach campaigns and public awareness initiatives related to legislative activities.
  • Undertake additional projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Proficiency in social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Experience in website management and multimedia content creation.
  • Ability to design promotional materials such as flyers and brochures.
  • Expertise in coordinating outreach events.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field along with one to three years of applicable experience, or a Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with three to five years of relevant experience.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Preferred experience in legislative or grassroots advocacy (1 to 3 years).
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms (1 to 3 years).
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Capacity to work independently while managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Physical ability to lift and carry items up to 10 lbs.

Essential Requirements:

This position necessitates the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes and requires a valid California driver's license. Travel may be necessary.

Language Proficiency:

  • English is required.
  • Spanish is preferred.
