About the Role

Downtown Women's Center is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Outreach Specialist - Peer to join our team. As a key member of our outreach and engagement team, you will play a vital role in providing culturally responsive services to women and gender-expansive individuals experiencing homelessness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engagement and Outreach: Perform field-based outreach to engage with community members, assess needs, and provide resources and support.
  • Relationship Building: Develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships with participants, providing vision-driven hope and encouragement to support them in their housing journey.
  • Advocacy and Resource Navigation: Serve as an advocate and liaison for clients in accessing needed resources, including benefits, basic needs, and housing.
  • Service Planning and Coordination: Participate in developing service plans and attend regular multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure comprehensive, trauma-informed care.
  • Reporting and Communication: Provide weekly and monthly reports to the Supervisor- Outreach & Engagement, as needed, and maintain open communication with the team.
Requirements
  • Lived Experience and Familiarity: Lived experience and familiarity with the Skid Row community are strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care, strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Education and Experience: Required education and experience include a strong understanding of the complex barriers surrounding women's homelessness and knowledge of local resources available to individuals experiencing homelessness.
