Job Summary

APLA Health is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Prevention Training Specialist, Community Outreach Coordinator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting community engagement and outreach activities to increase awareness about PrEP and PEP.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a community mobilization plan to target outreach venues and evaluate its effectiveness.
  • Create an organized outreach protocol for the target population, including monthly outreach activities and maintaining an updated list of outreach sites/venues.
  • Conduct community education events focusing on PrEP and related biomedical interventions.
  • Utilize social media platforms in outreach efforts and assist in the development of social marketing materials.
  • Disseminate lessons learned by developing and submitting abstracts for presentations at professional meetings and conferences.
  • Attend department meetings and trainings, and ensure culturally and linguistically appropriate services.
  • Prepare quantitative and qualitative reports as assigned and serve as a speaker/facilitator for trainings.
  • Attend community/public meetings as necessary and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Associates degree in a human services related field and 1-year experience working in the HIV/health education field, or two years of experience working in the HIV/health education field.
  • Knowledge of PrEP/PEP, health disparities spectrum of HIV and STD disease, harm reduction theory, behavior modification theory, human sexuality, substance use and abuse, motivational interviewing techniques, outreach strategies, data management, and health and social concerns of diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently, work effectively with diverse staff, volunteers, and professionals, and maintain confidentiality.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

This is primarily an office position that requires occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting, and moving of office materials weighing 25 pounds or less. The position requires daily use of a personal computer and requires entering, viewing, and revising text and graphics on the computer terminal and on paper.

Special Requirements
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license, proof of auto liability insurance, and have the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
  • Must be flexible with schedule to accommodate working some evening and weekends for outreach purposes.
