Position Overview: The Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations. This role is pivotal in enhancing the company's performance by implementing effective EHS risk management strategies within the fast-paced logistics and transportation industry. The EHS VP will be responsible for identifying potential EHS challenges, ensuring adherence to risk management protocols, mentoring regional teams, analyzing incident reports, and formulating practical solutions. The ideal candidate will serve as a key EHS leader, inspiring and aligning the division with local EHS goals while contributing to the development and execution of sector-wide EHS policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of direct reports within the EHS organization to implement the Global EHS Management System across North America.
  • Oversee the execution of program elements/tools to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards.
  • Provide expert guidance in creating continuous improvement processes for EHS and managing follow-up actions related to incidents, inspections, and audits.
  • Assist in formulating strategic EHS annual operating plans, evaluate performance against EHS objectives, and recommend necessary adjustments to achieve targets.
  • Conduct regular site assessments and EHS activities such as training, auditing, and compliance checks to maintain adherence to regulatory and internal standards.
  • Manage projects associated with the deployment of the overall EHS strategy, analyze key performance indicators, and collaborate with leadership to mitigate EHS risks.
  • Develop and implement risk assessments and control measures, ensuring their effectiveness through ongoing evaluation.
  • Identify unsafe practices and conditions, providing corrective action recommendations in a collaborative manner.
  • Contribute to the development of leading and lagging Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that reflect best-in-class EHS performance.
  • Analyze EHS data to create prevention strategies addressing process gaps and ensuring timely, achievable performance plans.
  • Foster collaboration with internal EHS teams and other departments such as Engineering, Human Resources, and Operations to promote continuous EHS improvements.
  • Evaluate data trends and EHS performance to prioritize actions that align with organizational goals.
  • Coach leaders across the organization, emphasizing the importance of EHS culture in achieving business productivity.
  • Identify challenges and guide field locations in developing corrective action plans to address root causes using recognized analysis techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a warehousing, distribution, or fleet environment as a senior EHS professional.
  • Extensive knowledge of EHS management systems and their implementation.
  • Proven ability to navigate multi-state EHS regulations and manage programs effectively.
  • Strong understanding of EHS requirements and regulations.
  • Postgraduate EHS qualifications are desirable.
  • Certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or PE are advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and develop high-performance teams.
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% based on business needs.

Compensation:

  • Base salary range: $120,000 - $180,000
