Overview: The Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations and play a crucial role in enhancing the company's success through effective EHS risk management within the fast-paced logistics and warehousing sector. This leader will be responsible for proactively identifying EHS challenges, ensuring the application of risk management protocols, mentoring regional teams, analyzing incident reports, and crafting actionable strategies. The ideal candidate will serve as a pivotal EHS leader, capable of engaging and aligning the Division with local EHS goals while contributing to the development and execution of comprehensive EHS policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of EHS professionals to implement the Global EHS Management System across North American distribution centers.
  • Oversee the execution of program elements and tools to guarantee compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards.
  • Provide expert guidance in creating continuous improvement processes for EHS and managing follow-up actions related to incidents, inspections, and audits.
  • Assist in formulating strategic EHS annual operating plans, evaluate performance against EHS objectives, and recommend necessary adjustments to achieve targets.
  • Conduct regular site evaluations and EHS initiatives such as training, auditing, and assessments to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Manage projects aimed at deploying the overall EHS strategy, analyze key performance indicators, and collaborate with leadership to mitigate EHS risks across the organization.
  • Develop and execute risk assessments and implement effective control measures, ensuring the efficacy of existing safety protocols.
  • Identify and address unsafe operational practices and conditions, applying knowledge of corrective actions in a collaborative manner.
  • Contribute to the establishment of leading and lagging Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that reflect superior EHS performance and promote a cultural shift towards safety.
  • Analyze EHS data to formulate prevention strategies addressing process or risk gaps, ensuring timely and achievable performance plans.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination with internal EHS teams and other departments such as Engineering, Human Resources, and Operations to foster continuous improvement in EHS practices.
  • Assess data trends and EHS performance metrics to prioritize actions that enhance organizational safety.
  • Guide leaders at all levels in promoting EHS values and ensuring a robust safety culture that supports business objectives.
  • Identify challenges, coach field locations in developing corrective action plans, and utilize industry-standard analysis techniques to address root causes of issues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior EHS role within warehousing, distribution, or fleet operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of EHS management systems and their effective implementation.
  • Proven ability to navigate multi-state EHS regulations and manage compliance programs.
  • Strong understanding of EHS requirements and regulations.
  • Postgraduate EHS qualifications are desirable.
  • Certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or PE are advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% based on business needs.

Compensation:

  • Base salary range: $120,000 - $180,000
