Role Responsibilities

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for coordinating and delivering exceptional, patient-focused respiratory care, adhering to departmental standards and state regulations. As an integral member of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist conducts various diagnostic assessments and therapeutic interventions while monitoring patients on both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and document comprehensive patient assessments, including breath sounds, airway integrity, and cuff pressure, while performing diagnostic tests to determine the necessity and effectiveness of respiratory therapy.
  • Administer respiratory therapies such as oxygen delivery, aerosol treatments, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Assist in the placement of artificial airways and manage mechanical ventilation protocols.
  • Monitor patient responses to therapy, alerting providers and intervening as necessary in cases of adverse reactions.
  • Facilitate the transport of patients requiring ventilatory support.
  • Respond to emergency situations, ensuring airway management and adequate ventilation during resuscitation efforts.
Qualifications Required:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) credentials.
  • Associate Degree in a relevant field.
