ROLE SUMMARY:

The primary objective of the Respiratory Therapist is to deliver exceptional respiratory care to patients, encompassing both routine and advanced procedures through a diverse array of techniques and equipment. This role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and effective communication with all stakeholders. The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for ensuring that patient care adheres to the quality standards set forth by the healthcare institution, department, and regulatory bodies. This position requires accountability for maintaining the skills and knowledge essential for providing safe, effective, and developmentally appropriate respiratory care across all patient age groups, from neonates to adolescents. Together with the care team, the therapist is accountable for achieving patient outcomes that reflect the high standards of care upheld by Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Work Schedule: Night shifts, including weekends

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate patients' clinical conditions, assess progress towards treatment goals, and propose action plans for care.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to plan for patients' respiratory care needs, ensuring optimal clinical outcomes.
  • Conduct various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with established standards and guidelines to ensure patient safety.
  • Utilize critical thinking and sound judgment to analyze urgent situations and resolve problems effectively.
  • Interpret and communicate patient results accurately to support comprehensive patient care.
  • Document all interventions and patient responses in the electronic medical record to ensure compliance and utility.
  • Engage with patients and families, explaining therapeutic procedures in an accessible manner tailored to individual learning styles and needs.
  • Work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, particularly during high-pressure situations with rapidly changing priorities, to achieve superior patient outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in Florida.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential, or an equivalent recognized credential.
  • Graduation from a Registered Respiratory Therapy Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
  • Preferred: Minimum of one year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • No prior experience required for new graduate Registered Respiratory Therapists.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or must obtain within the orientation period.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification if working in a neonatal intensive care setting.
