Position Summary

The Clinical Outcomes Manager embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adheres to the organization’s ethical standards, and complies with all relevant policies and regulations.

The primary responsibility of the Clinical Outcomes Manager (COM) is to support the patient care team in delivering the highest quality of care and achieving optimal patient outcomes in a cost-effective manner. The COM collaborates with healthcare professionals throughout the care continuum and possesses a comprehensive understanding of the demographics associated with the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU). This role involves developing strategies to enhance the equity, effectiveness, and efficiency of resource delivery to the patient population both within and outside the acute care environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Oversight:
  • Manage and oversee both existing and newly established cardiovascular clinical programs, including the development of business cases for educational initiatives and processes related to these programs.
  • Collaborate closely with CTICU Operations Managers, Education Coordinators, Quality Coordinators, and medical directors to ensure effective management of clinical staff and educational needs.
Evidence-Based Practice:
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, guiding clinicians on available resources and policies related to care standards.
  • Coordinate research initiatives and the onboarding process for newly hired nurses and ancillary staff within cardiovascular programs.
  • Identify and pursue business opportunities that enhance patient experience and organizational reputation.
  • Conduct complex analyses to evaluate potential clinical initiatives and lead efforts to achieve recognition such as the BEACON award.
  • Encourage professional growth among staff and foster an environment of clinical inquiry.
Quality and Safety:
  • Identify practice gaps through assessments and observations, implementing strategies to address these gaps.
  • Develop and manage internal measurement systems to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical initiatives.
  • Collaborate with various departments to enhance quality improvement processes.
  • Utilize data to identify performance gaps and plan interventions aimed at improving patient care quality.
  • Promote interprofessional collaboration and maintain a supportive work environment.
QualificationsRequired:
  • Master's degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse License in Illinois
  • Specialty certification recognized by Magnet
  • 2-5 years of experience in patient population studies and collaboration with care providers
  • BLS Certification
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred:
  • Previous leadership experience
  • CNS or CNL Certification
  • Experience in CTICU
