Position Summary:

The Clinical Outcomes Manager embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adheres to the organization's ethical standards, and complies with all relevant policies and regulatory requirements.

The primary responsibility of the Clinical Outcomes Manager (COM) is to support the patient care team in achieving optimal quality and outcomes for patients in a cost-efficient manner. The COM collaborates with healthcare professionals throughout the care continuum and possesses a comprehensive understanding of the demographics within the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU). This role involves developing strategies to enhance the equity, effectiveness, and efficiency of resource delivery to the patient population, both within and outside the acute care environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Management:

  • Oversee existing and newly established cardiovascular clinical programs, including the development of business cases for educational initiatives and processes related to new programs, while directly managing clinical staff.
  • Collaborate closely with CTICU Operations Managers, Education Coordinators, Quality Coordinators, and medical directors to ensure comprehensive professional development for all CTICU nursing staff.

Evidence-Based Practice:

  • Act as a subject matter expert, guiding clinicians to available resources and policies on care standards, while coaching them in strategies to enhance practice and patient outcomes.
  • Coordinate research initiatives related to clinical programs and manage the onboarding process for newly hired nurses and ancillary staff.
  • Identify and pursue business opportunities that enhance patient experience and improve service reputation in cardiovascular care.
  • Conduct complex analyses to evaluate potential clinical initiatives, leading the team toward achieving prestigious designations.
  • Foster a culture of clinical inquiry and support staff involvement in research and evidence-based practice.
  • Lead innovative initiatives to secure specialty designations and recognitions, collaborating across the organization to implement necessary changes.

Quality and Safety:

  • Identify practice gaps through assessments and observations, implementing strategies to address these gaps effectively.
  • Develop and manage internal measurement systems to demonstrate the impact of clinical initiatives on patient care performance.
  • Work collaboratively with various departments to establish quality improvement processes.
  • Utilize data to identify performance gaps and implement interventions to enhance patient care quality.
  • Promote interprofessional collaboration in patient care, maintaining a supportive work environment.
  • Engage with quality coaches to operationalize quality initiatives, ensuring compliance with applicable standards.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse License in Illinois
  • Specialty certification recognized by Magnet
  • 2-5 years of experience in patient population studies and collaboration with care providers
  • BLS Certification
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred:

  • Previous leadership experience
  • CNS or CNL Certification
  • Experience in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit
