Position Overview:
The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) operates as an advanced practitioner, delivering and overseeing care for patients, families, and communities within the microsystem. The CNL is recognized as a point-of-care expert, outcomes manager, advocate for clients, educator, information steward, system analyst, team leader, and lifelong learner. This role collaborates closely with nursing leadership and the healthcare team, acting as a guardian of care and coordinator for enhancing patient care outcomes, particularly for complex clinical cases. The CNL provides insights regarding the microsystem to collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) on broader system processes and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evidence-Based Practice: Coordinates comprehensive, evidence-based education for patients and families, addressing barriers to care, social justice, and health equity. Evaluates and implements evidence-based practices to improve outcomes within the microsystem.
  • Relationships and Caring: Advocates for and coordinates patient care across the microsystem, collaborating to address complex patient and family goals to enhance outcomes.
  • Critical Thinking: Identifies safety factors for patients and staff, developing and implementing plans to ensure safety throughout the care continuum.
  • Technical Expertise: Partners in designing and implementing processes that leverage new technologies to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Leadership: Maintains open communication with leadership to identify trends affecting quality care delivery and collaborates on initiatives related to accreditation and designation maintenance.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • Current State of Illinois Professional Registered Nurse licensure
  • Graduate degree in nursing
  • National certification as Clinical Nurse Leader (required upon hire unless enrolled in Rush University’s GEM Nursing Program)
  • Two years of relevant nursing experience
  • BLS and other pertinent emergency cardiovascular care certifications
  • Demonstrated success in leading quality initiatives within a microsystem
  • Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in navigating electronic medical records and basic computer skills
