Clinical Research Project Manager, UIC Center for Clinical and Translational Science

The Clinical Research Project Manager operates within the CCTS Clinical Research Center, taking charge of overseeing and coordinating the efficient execution of all elements of clinical research protocols. This role encompasses both pre and post-research activities, ensuring adherence to established timelines and compliance with regulatory standards.

Protocol Oversight

  • Facilitate the establishment and coordination of clinical research protocol priorities and organizational frameworks.
  • Inform medical professionals, clinical personnel, partners, and funding bodies of any adverse occurrences and modifications to protocols, including their implications for the clinical research agenda.
  • Manage the initiation and upkeep of clinical protocols, which includes reviewing and completing necessary submissions, amendments, and reports as mandated by the UIC Institutional Review Board (IRB), Protocol Review Committee, and funding agencies.
  • Regularly assess laboratory and clinical procedures to ensure compliance with protocols.
  • Act as a liaison among physicians, clinical staff, the UIC IRB office, funding bodies, and regulatory organizations to ensure clear communication of priorities and proper allocation of resources across various ongoing projects.
  • Disseminate clinical information and collaborate with stakeholders to develop best practice tools.

Client Recruitment and Compliance

  • Assist healthcare providers and clinical teams in identifying, recruiting, and enrolling patients to enhance participation in clinical research protocols.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts and collaborate with community organizations, educational institutions, and public events to present research initiatives and attract new participants for diverse research projects.
  • Evaluate patients for eligibility and involvement in clinical research studies.
  • Conduct patient assessments, including anthropometric measurements and perform phlebotomy procedures.
  • Oversee the informed consent process and monitor patient progress; enroll clients into research programs, clearly explaining the research protocols and obtaining necessary consent documentation.
  • Ensure that client enrollment and research activities adhere to established protocols, regulatory standards, and guidelines set by funding agencies.
  • Participate in conducting surveys and collecting feedback from clients and their families.
  • Compile and review participant evaluations, surveys, and interviews to generate reports for the Principal Investigator and relevant agencies.
  • Maintain accurate and legible documentation of all participant records and source documents as per protocol requirements.
  • Perform basic laboratory tasks, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and managing the storage and shipping of study specimens.
  • Assist researchers in organizing study data for progress reports, presentations, and publications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, mental health, psychology, pharmaceutical sciences, social sciences, or a related field is required.
  • Certification as a Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a research environment is required, with a preference for experience in clinical research settings and familiarity with Federal Regulations and IRB processes.
  • Prior knowledge of medical terminology and procedures is essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are necessary. Excellent communication, organizational, presentation, and computer skills are required.
  • Understanding of research protocols, principles, and procedures; familiarity with clinical trial components such as screening, interviewing, and case report forms; knowledge of experimental design, statistics, and data management; proficiency in oral and written communication; and awareness of ethical and regulatory considerations in clinical trials.
