Construction Payroll and Human Resources Coordinator

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll and Human Resources Administrator to join our team at American Mechanical, Inc. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for managing payroll processing, human resources, and benefits administration for our construction company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Payroll Processing:
    • Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll for approximately 30 employees using in-house Foundation software.
    • Audit timecards to ensure accuracy of data, including PTO, overtime, and meal breaks.
    • Submit weekly payroll tax deposits to appropriate tax agencies.
    • Process new hires, promotions, and terminations.
    • Responsible for certified payroll reporting and compliance.
    • Calculate and prepare payroll-related journal entries.
    • Issue W-2's timely and accurately.
  • Human Resources and Benefits Administration:
    • Administer onboarding process in Bamboo, entering personnel documents, training, etc.
    • Order background checks and conduct reference checks for applicants.
    • Oversee open enrollment for group health coverage. Responsible for ensuring new hires are enrolled in group health and 401k plans timely.
    • Process termination paperwork, COBRA administration, conduct exit interviews, and respond to unemployment claims filed.
  • Accounting Assistant Duties:
    • Assist in month-end close, bank account reconciliations, recurring journal entries.
    • Gather documents for annual insurance audit, 401k audit, and ESOP valuation and compliance.
  • Office Administration and Other Duties:
    • Order office supplies as necessary.
    • Work with IT to order and set up new phones and/or computers for new hires, and assist employees with ongoing phone and computer needs.
Requirements
  • Three+ years prior construction payroll processing, including certified payroll.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local wage and tax laws.
  • Familiarity with Foundation Software a plus.
  • Construction industry experience a plus.
