Overview:
Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a skilled professional to oversee the Material Acquisition and Research Engineering Department within our Nuclear Science & Technology Directorate. This position is integral to our mission and offers a unique work schedule.

Department Responsibilities:
The Material Acquisition and Research Engineering Department plays a critical role in facilitating research initiatives by providing essential purchasing and engineering support. Key engineering tasks involve designing equipment and support systems for various research projects, alongside procurement assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Technical Integrator, responsible for reviewing and approving engineering documentation to enhance research efforts.
  • Oversee departmental operations through management of subordinate supervisors and professionals, offering guidance in alignment with established company policies.
  • Ensure effective functioning of significant departmental activities, with decisions impacting team dynamics and influencing operational methods.
  • Manage financials, business planning, and organizational priorities while ensuring realistic budgetary and performance targets are achieved.
  • Typically supervise employees engaged in similar tasks, including both exempt and non-exempt staff.
  • Receive assignments based on objectives and allocate resources to meet established timelines and goals.
  • Propose policy modifications and establish procedures affecting the department or multiple disciplines, contributing to the development of long-term departmental objectives.
  • Collaborate with key external contacts and partners to enhance departmental effectiveness.
  • Function at the third level of management, with responsibilities related to human resources, primarily through the management of others.
  • Report directly to the Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an R&D environment.
  • Demonstrated management experience with a focus on recruiting and developing engineering talent, alongside knowledge of engineering design processes and procurement practices.
  • Familiarity with engineering conduct and research methodologies is essential.
  • Understanding of quality standards and procurement operations is required.
  • This role necessitates the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which mandates U.S. Citizenship.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The anticipated salary range for this position is between $137,000 and $203,855 annually, with compensation determined by factors such as education and relevant experience.
