Job Overview

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize engineering expertise to validate reactor designs and ensure accuracy.
  • Implement engineering principles throughout the design and execution phases.
  • Maintain operational readiness of assigned systems and components to facilitate ongoing nuclear operations and reactor advancements.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of design specifications, system performance standards, physical configurations, and maintenance protocols.
  • Supervise design documentation, including calculations, specifications, and system design descriptions, produced by reactor designers or subcontractors.
  • Establish quality standards, support the execution of startup activities, and manage redlines and as-built documentation.
  • Conduct design modifications to enhance advanced reactors at the Materials and Fuels Complex.
  • Perform mechanical and structural calculations, designing modifications for existing structures and creating new designs for engineering projects.
  • Engage in mechanical and structural engineering design tasks, collaborating with external engineering firms on project-specific requirements, including cost, schedule, and scope management.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, including ASME BPVC Section III and AISC N690, while also considering ACI, ASCE 7, ASCE 43, ASCE 4, AISC, and IBC.
  • Implement INL Engineering Standards and DOE Orders in all engineering activities.
  • Analyze and evaluate structures and systems in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III.
  • Assess advanced microreactor designs against DOE seismic and natural hazard standards.
  • Utilize finite element analysis software for structural calculations.
  • Evaluate situations that may impact structural integrity and public safety.
  • Apply advanced engineering concepts to resolve Structural/Civil engineering challenges.
  • Complete various engineering tasks, including design and analysis, maintenance, and documentation.
Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering with 5-8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree with 3-6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineering License in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, requiring U.S. Citizenship.
