This position will report to the project investigator and involves a variety of applications including waste management, nuclear and chemical reactor design, cutting-edge manufacturing, and sustainable energy systems. Our team operates on a 9x80 schedule, allowing for every other Friday off.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and refine computational models that integrate a range of interdisciplinary skills, including fluid dynamics, thermal transfer, chemistry, combustion, materials science, and nuclear engineering.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and practical experience in modeling intricate physical processes.
  • Collaborate with a team of experts to enhance our knowledge of physicochemical processes in various systems and translate this knowledge into practical solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Completion of Ph.D. requirements must occur prior to the start of the appointment and within the last five years.
  • Proficiency in English, with exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'Q' clearance, necessitating U.S. citizenship.
  • This is an on-site position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics tools (e.g., STAR-CCM+, Nek5000/NekRS).
  • Familiarity with computational chemistry or thermodynamics software (e.g., Cantera, CHEMKIN, FactSage, ThermoCalc).
  • Expertise in thermomechanical analysis through finite element modeling, preferably using Multiphysics Object-Oriented Simulation Environment software.
  • Proficiency in meshing software (e.g., Cubit or equivalent) and best practices in verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification.
  • Ability to visualize scientific data using tools like ParaView or similar.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence methodologies.
  • Experience with high-performance computing, scripting, and batch processing.
  • Proficiency in LINUX and Python programming.
  • A proven track record of accomplishments through publications, reports, intellectual property, or presentations.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The target salary for this position is $96,900, determined by factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
