Position Overview:
The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a skilled Nuclear Engineer to contribute to our Measurement Sciences division. This role operates on a 9x80 schedule, providing a balanced work-life dynamic.
In this position, you will utilize nuclear engineering principles to innovate, assess, and refine nuclear systems and apparatus. Your research will focus on advanced materials relevant to radiation detection, nuclear fuels, and reactor technologies. You will conduct investigations related to radiation monitoring and the management of radioactive materials, reporting directly to the Measurement Sciences manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with design teams, analysts, and stakeholders to establish experimental specifications and develop protocols for the management of spent nuclear fuel.
- Employ sophisticated nuclear engineering design methodologies and concepts, including reactor fuel and containment systems, to translate project objectives into clear design requirements.
- Implement industry best practices in design methodologies and technologies to ensure that designs fulfill established criteria.
- Document all design processes, including models, drawings, specifications, and descriptions, to demonstrate compliance with regulatory standards and design requirements.
- Define testing, inspection, and quality assurance protocols to uphold the integrity of design responsibilities.
- Supervise the fabrication, construction, assembly, and procurement processes to ensure adherence to design specifications.
Qualifications:
- Level 1: Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Level 2: Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field with two years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with no prior experience.
- Eligibility for a Department of Energy 'L' clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary range for Level 1: $63,528 - $130,284; Level 2: $75,804 - $155,496, determined by education and experience.
