Department Responsibilities:

The Material Acquisition and Research Engineering Department plays a crucial role in facilitating research initiatives through effective procurement and engineering services. Key engineering functions include the design and support of equipment and systems essential for various research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Technical Integrator, responsible for reviewing and approving engineering documentation to bolster research efforts.
  • Oversee departmental operations, guiding a team of supervisors and professionals while adhering to established organizational policies.
  • Ensure the efficient functioning of significant activities that impact the organization, making decisions that influence team methods and techniques.
  • Manage financial planning, business strategies, and workforce organization, ensuring that budgets and performance metrics are realistically established and achieved.
  • Typically supervise employees performing similar functions, including both exempt and non-exempt staff.
  • Receive assignments based on objectives and allocate resources effectively to meet deadlines and targets.
  • Propose policy changes and establish procedures that affect the department and potentially other disciplines, contributing to the overall goals of the department and division.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders outside of your area of expertise and engage with external partners.
  • Function at the third level of management, with responsibilities for human resources, ensuring all work is conducted through effective management of others.
  • Report directly to the Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A degree (BS or MS) in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience in an R&D environment.
  • Demonstrated management experience with a focus on recruiting and developing engineering talent, along with knowledge of the engineering design process and procurement methods.
  • Familiarity with engineering practices and research methodologies is essential.
  • Understanding of quality standards and procurement activities is required.
  • This position necessitates the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The target salary range for this role is $137,000 to $203,855 annually, with full compensation considerations based on education, relevant experience, and credentials.

  • This position is designated for testing; candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug screening and periodic testing thereafter.
