Description

Bellingham Technical College is seeking to create a pool of candidates for part-time temporary hourly roles to support the Library in various functions including circulation, general inquiries, materials handling, and technology assistance for students.

These positions are part-time and temporary, reporting to the Executive Director of the Library, eLearning & Academic Support. Work hours are not guaranteed and will depend on departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

Under general supervision, typical responsibilities include:
  • Executing routine and advanced circulation tasks.
  • Providing assistance to library users with general inquiries both in-person and through electronic communication.
  • Offering technology support to students.
  • Managing the processing of library materials and equipment.
Successful candidates will need to:
  • Comprehend and follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Work autonomously.
  • Engage positively with a diverse community.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent AND one year of library technical experience or related activities (Library Assistant II) or three years of library technical experience (Library Assistant III), or successful completion of relevant coursework, OR equivalent education/experience.

Specific Skills and Work Environment:
Experience working with the public, maintaining an integrated library management system, particularly Alma/Primo. Technical processing of library materials and equipment is preferred. Strong computer skills are necessary, including proficiency in MS Office, internet navigation, and database searching. Physical capabilities include the ability to retrieve and organize materials on various shelving heights, use a step-stool or ladder, and manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
Additional Information

This role is part-time and temporary, with work scheduled during regular library hours, typically Monday through Thursday, and Friday. The schedule will vary, and hours are not guaranteed. Currently, we are looking for candidates who are available during standard business hours.

Compensation is $19.76 (ITRC Library Assistant II) or $20.78 (ITRC Library Assistant III) per hour. Benefits include some paid sick leave in accordance with state law and participation in the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Temporary employees may have some flexibility in scheduling.
