POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking an experienced leader to oversee one or more specialized accounting teams, which may encompass various areas such as Line of Business (LOB) accounting and Shared Services. This role involves managing accounting projects, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and preparing detailed financial statements and reports.

As a key player in our organization, you will be responsible for risk management by fostering open communication, addressing concerns, and adhering to established policies and procedures. You will be dedicated to delivering exceptional service to both customers and colleagues, ensuring that your actions contribute positively to the overall customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk framework, you will achieve results by effectively identifying, assessing, managing, and reporting various types of risks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead teams to successfully achieve operational goals.
  • Evaluate team performance against set proficiency benchmarks.
  • Establish performance standards and assess team members' achievements.
  • Oversee staffing, performance evaluations, and compensation for team members.
  • Ensure meticulous maintenance of complex accounting records and related functions.
  • Guarantee compliance with timelines and operational objectives linked to month-end closing activities.
  • Prepare management reports relevant to team responsibilities, including appropriation and T&E reporting.
  • Supervise daily transaction entries, account monitoring, and balance maintenance.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Ensure adherence to financial control policies, including reconciliations.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and implement process enhancements for team efficiency.
  • Utilize technology to boost productivity and effectiveness.
  • Recognize opportunities for refining accounting processes.
  • Address technical accounting issues promptly, collaborating with the Accounting Risk and Policy Group as necessary.
  • Manage special accounting projects related to team functions.
  • Oversee team assignments for acquisitions, divestitures, and system conversions.
  • Respond to inquiries from auditors, regulators, and management regarding team responsibilities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with peers and management across customer and functional areas.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

Provide timely, constructive feedback to employees, fostering their professional development and career growth. Ensure a robust talent pool for succession planning and recognize employee achievements. Directly manage accounting staff and/or accounting managers and supervisors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics is essential; an MBA or relevant certification (CPA, CMA, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of 10 years of accounting or related experience is required, with banking or public accounting experience being advantageous.
  • Prior management experience is necessary.
  • Proficiency in advanced spreadsheet applications is expected.
  • Ability to learn and navigate financial systems such as TM1, Managed Pay, GEAC, and Frontier is crucial.

  • Strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction with all levels of staff.
