Overview:
This role functions as a Medical Supply Coordinator within the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) sectors of the Logistics Service in the Veterans Affairs Health Care System.

As a Medical Supply Coordinator, your primary responsibility will be to supply various departments including wards, clinics, operating rooms, and other healthcare facilities with essential materials and supplies. This encompasses both sterile and non-sterile medical items, instrument sets, and equipment.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage inventory by pulling stock and preparing materials for delivery.
  • Replenish inventory levels and maintain accurate records of stock.
  • Engage with clinical and administrative staff to address supply-related inquiries.
  • Report any issues regarding supplies, equipment, or procedures to the Lead or Supervisor.
  • Provide information to staff regarding medical supplies and their proper usage.
  • Monitor expiration dates and ensure stock rotation to minimize waste.
  • Conduct daily inventory checks using barcoding systems to facilitate timely restocking.
  • Resolve discrepancies between inventory records and physical stock counts.
  • Ensure timely delivery of supplies in sterile and functional condition.
  • Prepare specialty carts and maintain cleanliness in assigned areas following aseptic protocols.
  • Receive incoming supplies and materials into the healthcare facility.

Work Schedule:
Standard hours are from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with potential weekend shifts.

Specialized Experience:
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service. This experience should include:
  • Providing supplies and materials to clinical and administrative areas within a healthcare facility.
  • Utilizing barcoding systems for receiving, storing, and distributing medical supplies.
  • Maintaining inventory records and monitoring expiration dates.
  • Cleaning and organizing assigned areas in accordance with health standards.
  • Responding to inquiries regarding supplies and materials.

Education:
Applicants may substitute education for experience. A minimum of four years of education beyond high school in a relevant field is required.

Combination of Experience and Education:
Applicants may qualify through a combination of specialized experience and post-high school education.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires standing and walking throughout the workday, along with frequent bending and lifting of supply packages, occasionally weighing up to 50 pounds. The role involves pushing loaded carts of medical supplies and maintaining a clean environment while transitioning between various healthcare settings.
