The University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men is on the lookout for a dedicated 8th-12th Grade Music Educator to join our team for the upcoming academic year.

Support for Educators:

Our operational team is robust, with student managers at each grade level who are instrumental in supporting student success through a collaborative approach involving families. Our administration ensures that teachers have access to all necessary instructional resources and support through a coaching model aimed at enhancing teacher effectiveness. We prioritize professional development to foster growth and improve student outcomes.

Our graduates have consistently achieved a remarkable success rate, with over 94% of our seniors gaining acceptance into two- or four-year colleges or vocational programs.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver a comprehensive music curriculum that encompasses general music education, innovative integration of technology in music creation, and leading project-based learning initiatives.
  • Create a positive and engaging learning atmosphere that encourages students to explore and enhance their musical abilities.
  • Utilize diverse activities and technology to engage students with varying learning styles and personalities.
  • Conduct formative and summative assessments to inform instructional decisions and support student growth.
  • Facilitate students' acquisition of knowledge and skills essential for their development into responsible adults.
  • Design an instructional program tailored to meet the unique needs, interests, and abilities of each student.
  • Guide the learning process towards achieving curriculum objectives and clearly communicate these goals to students.
  • Employ effective instructional methods and materials that align with established objectives.
  • Regularly assess student progress and provide necessary feedback.
  • Identify students' learning strengths and challenges, collaborating with district specialists as needed.
  • Engage in regular communication with colleagues, students, and parents, fostering a cooperative environment.
  • Assist in implementing school policies and maintaining a fair and orderly classroom environment.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and improvement.
  • Participate in meetings and contribute to staff committees as required.
  • Adhere to State Education Department regulations.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.

  • Required Experience:
    • A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban educational settings (1-2 years of experience preferred).
    • Academic expertise in Music.
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required prior to employment.

While certification is not mandatory for hiring, candidates must meet New York state certification eligibility requirements and be willing to pursue certification.
