Position Overview

As a High School Mathematics Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will collaborate with grade and content teams to guide students towards becoming independent learners. Our educators are passionate about mathematics and possess the ability to motivate and engage high school students effectively. The essence of our math curriculum is to instill a love for mathematics, encouraging students to develop problem-solving skills and perseverance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instructional Duties

  • Utilize a comprehensive Math curriculum to teach subjects including Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus, preparing students for Advanced Placement (AP) and college-level courses.
  • Support students in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Foster a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement and confidence in mathematics.
  • Guide students in constructing and justifying mathematical arguments using appropriate reasoning and vocabulary.
  • Build a community of self-directed learners where students feel secure and motivated.
  • Collaborate with the Math department to set academic and engagement objectives for students.

2. Data-Driven Analysis

  • Engage in weekly meetings with school leadership to analyze student performance data and adapt instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Implement differentiated instruction techniques to meet the diverse needs of all learners.

3. Fostering School Culture

  • Establish strong relationships with students to ensure they feel valued and understood.
  • Work alongside families to provide resources that support their child's educational journey.
  • Participate in professional development and mentorship opportunities to enhance teaching practices.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives that promote community, uphold core values, and drive student success.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams to set academic goals and refine instructional methods.

  • Required Experience:
    • A background in impacting K-12 students in urban settings (1-2 years preferred).
    • Academic proficiency in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required prior to employment. While certification is not mandatory at the time of hiring, candidates must meet New York state certification eligibility and enroll in a teacher preparation program if they do not possess a degree in education.

Compensation: The starting salary for this position ranges from $50,000 to $64,700, influenced by factors such as professional experience, education, and certifications.
