Position Summary

We are in search of a passionate and creative Music Teacher to enhance our vibrant educational environment. The ideal candidate will be tasked with delivering a well-rounded music program that encompasses general music education, the integration of AI in music production, and the facilitation of project-based learning experiences. The Music Teacher will cultivate a supportive atmosphere where students can discover and nurture their musical abilities.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Duties:

  • Design and execute a standards-aligned music curriculum tailored for elementary learners, focusing on general music education and AI-driven music creation.
  • Coordinate and present quarterly performances to showcase student talent to the school community.
  • Gather and analyze ongoing performance data to inform instructional strategies and collaborate with fellow educators to tailor learning experiences for diverse student needs.
  • Utilize state standards to craft rigorous, objective-focused, interdisciplinary lessons that align with curriculum frameworks.
  • Clearly define and communicate the cognitive skills targeted in each lesson, ensuring students understand the expected outcomes.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the individual learning and behavioral needs of students, ensuring all learners are engaged and challenged.
  • Employ various activities and technologies to cater to different learning styles and promote physical engagement.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom atmosphere that respects diversity.
  • Administer formative and summative assessments to enhance instructional decision-making and support student growth.
  • Encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication among students.
  • Provide diverse opportunities for students to achieve mastery and promote overall student success.
  • Establish measurable, ambitious goals that enhance student achievement; monitor and evaluate progress towards these objectives.
  • Offer timely feedback to students regarding their progress towards learning goals through regular assessments.
  • Reflect on lesson effectiveness and student progress using data to refine instructional practices.
  • Create a respectful and fair learning environment that motivates students to take risks and strive for excellence.
  • Set and uphold high expectations for student behavior and academic performance, fostering a culture of respect and achievement.
  • Implement classroom management strategies that provide structure and maximize instructional time.
  • Engage in respectful communication with parents/guardians, being sensitive to diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and curriculum expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues through meetings and professional development to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and take responsibility for personal professional development.
  • Provide universal support for students using the Multi-Tiered System of Support framework.
  • Participate in school committees or teams as required.
  • Attend family engagement events and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Utilize digital tools for scheduling, communication, and document management.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing student achievement and integrating core values emphasizing science and technology.
  • Ability to develop and implement a curriculum with measurable goals and assessments.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population and their families.
  • Familiarity with data systems, analysis, and action plan development.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state educational laws.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Effective communication skills with students and parents/guardians.
  • Capacity for self-evaluation and reflection on professional growth.
  • Aptitude for establishing collaborative working relationships.

Education and Experience:

  • Valid New York State Teaching Certificate for elementary education.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education.
  • Master's Degree in Education preferred.
  • Certification in a relevant area preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous experience with high-need students in urban settings is preferred.
  • Experience with project-based or inquiry-based instruction is advantageous.
  • Experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse populations is highly desired.
