Position Summary

We are in search of a passionate and forward-thinking Music Teacher to contribute to our vibrant educational community. The ideal candidate will be tasked with delivering an engaging music program that encompasses general music education, the integration of artificial intelligence in music composition, and the facilitation of project-based learning experiences. The Music Teacher will cultivate a supportive and inspiring environment where students can discover and nurture their musical abilities.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Duties:

  • Design and execute a comprehensive music curriculum tailored for elementary students, focusing on general music education and innovative music creation utilizing AI technologies.
  • Coordinate and oversee quarterly performances to showcase student talents to the school community.
  • Gather and analyze ongoing performance data to inform instructional practices and collaborate with fellow educators to customize learning experiences for all students.
  • Utilize state standards to craft rigorous, objective-driven, interdisciplinary lessons aligned with curriculum frameworks.
  • Identify and articulate the cognitive skills to be taught in each lesson, along with the physical, social, or content skills students will develop.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the diverse learning and behavioral needs of students, ensuring all are actively engaged and appropriately challenged.
  • Employ activities and technology that cater to various learning styles, personality types, and the need for physical engagement.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom atmosphere.
  • Conduct formative and summative assessments to enhance instructional decision-making and promote student growth.
  • Encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication through diverse learning opportunities.
  • Provide multiple avenues for students to achieve mastery while striving to promote success for every learner.
  • Establish measurable, ambitious goals that enhance student achievement opportunities; monitor and evaluate performance against these objectives.
  • Offer timely feedback to students regarding their progress toward achieving set goals through regular checks for understanding.
  • Utilize data to reflect on lesson effectiveness and student progress, adjusting instructional methods accordingly.
  • Maintain a classroom environment characterized by fairness and respect, motivating students to take risks and pursue their goals.
  • Communicate and uphold high expectations for behavior and academic performance, fostering a culture of achievement and respect.
  • Establish and reinforce age-appropriate rules and logical consequences, implementing individualized behavior management plans as necessary.
  • Implement classroom procedures and routines that provide structure and maximize instructional time.
  • Engage in respectful and thoughtful communication with parents/guardians, being sensitive to diverse family cultures and values.
  • Maintain timely communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and provide clarity on curriculum expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues through grade-level and school-wide meetings, professional development sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and take responsibility for personal professional growth.
  • Provide universal support for students using interventions outlined in the Multi-Tiered System of Support framework.
  • Participate in school committees or teams throughout the academic year.
  • Attend family engagement events and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Utilize digital tools for scheduling, communication, and accessing essential documents.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing student achievement while integrating the core values of the school, emphasizing science and technology.
  • Capable of developing and implementing a curriculum with measurable goals and assessments.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and their families.
  • Familiarity with data systems, analysis, and action plan development.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state educational laws.
  • Proficient in using computer systems and software applications as required.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with students and parents/guardians.
  • Engages in self-reflection and evaluation for professional growth.
  • Ability to build and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues.

Educational Requirements:

  • Valid New York State Teaching Certificate at the elementary level.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education.
  • Master's Degree in Education preferred.
  • Certification in a relevant area preferred.

Experience:

  • Prior experience with high-need students in urban settings is prioritized.
  • Experience with project-based or inquiry-based instruction is preferred.
  • Experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse populations is highly desired.
