Position Overview
As a High School Mathematics Educator at Uncommon Schools, you will collaborate with grade and content teams to guide students toward becoming independent learners. You will develop expertise in your subject matter and possess a strong ability to motivate and inspire high school learners. Your passion for mathematics will be central to your teaching approach, utilizing various instructional methods to help students understand, persevere, and solve mathematical challenges. By the end of their high school journey, students will be equipped for academic independence and college readiness.
Key Responsibilities
1. Instructional Duties
- Utilize a mathematics curriculum to teach subjects such as Algebra, Geometry, or Calculus, preparing students for Advanced Placement (AP) and college-level coursework.
- Support students in problem-solving and critical thinking.
- Inspire confidence and engagement in mathematics through your enthusiasm for the subject.
- Encourage students to construct and justify sound arguments using mathematical reasoning and vocabulary.
- Foster a community of self-directed learners where students feel secure, valued, and engaged.
- Collaborate with the Math department to set academic and engagement objectives for students.
2. Data-Driven Instruction
- Engage in weekly meetings with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work and assessment trends.
- Implement strategies to tailor instruction for diverse learners in your classroom.
3. Cultivating School Culture
- Build strong relationships with students to ensure they feel acknowledged and supported.
- Collaborate with families to provide necessary resources for student learning.
- Participate in professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
- Engage in weekly school-wide meetings to foster community, uphold core values, and promote student success.
- Work with your grade-level team to establish academic goals and refine instructional strategies.

- Required Experience:
- Interest in impacting K-12 students in urban settings (1-2 years preferred).
- Academic proficiency in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required prior to employment. Certification is not mandatory at hiring, but candidates must meet New York state certification eligibility and enroll in a teacher preparation program if they do not hold a degree in education.

Compensation: The starting salary for this role is between $50,000 and $64,700, depending on various factors such as relevant experience, education, certifications, and tenure.
