Position Overview

The Geotechnical Project Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing a variety of geotechnical initiatives for clients involved in private land development. These projects encompass the planning, design, and management phases for our industrial, commercial, and residential clientele.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engages with clients to ascertain site specifications and offers insights on the design of complex geotechnical investigations, pavement assessments, slope designs, retaining wall constructions, foundation strategies, and pavement solutions.
  • Sets project objectives and aids in meeting quality assurance and quality control benchmarks.
  • Leads and manages daily operational tasks associated with the preparation of Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) projects.
  • Collaborates with project architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, and other technical personnel to ensure successful project development and delivery.
  • Oversees project budgets and evaluates project profitability, revenue streams, margins, billing rates, and resource utilization.
  • Facilitates project team meetings and conducts project evaluations.
  • Generates client billing details for assigned projects and manages the collection of outstanding receivables.
  • Identifies additional project scope and revenue opportunities, participating in business development efforts.
  • Drafts and/or reviews project proposals, change orders, and manages overall project scope.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with clients regarding project status.
  • Mentors staff and fosters strong professional relationships with clients.
  • Supervises drilling operations and laboratory testing for projects.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Possession of a Michigan Professional Engineer (P.E.) License or the ability to obtain one.
Experience and Knowledge
  • A minimum of 3 years of project management experience, with a preference for candidates with healthcare, residential, commercial, or industrial land development project experience.
  • At least 10 years of relevant geotechnical experience in site development, including foundation design, soil bearing capacity assessments, construction and pavement design recommendations, budgeting, and all facets of site development across various project types.
  • Familiarity with codes, regulations, and standards relevant to geotechnical design and construction for significant site development projects in Michigan.
  • Proficient in standard software applications utilized for geotechnical engineering design and management (e.g., Microsoft Office).

Physical Requirements

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully execute the essential functions of this role. The work is primarily conducted in an office environment, with some outdoor responsibilities required for inspecting various land use developments, construction sites, or public works facilities. Hand-eye coordination is essential for operating drafting instruments, computers, and various office equipment.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may also need to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and must be able to talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee may need to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with a work schedule from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with overtime as necessary.

Travel Requirements

Travel will be necessary to various job sites, primarily within the local area during business hours.
