  • Team Leadership: Inspire, guide, and cultivate a top-tier closures engineering team.
  • Innovative Design: Develop industry-leading closure systems that excel in cost, weight, and functionality.
  • Project Management: Direct the engineering, packaging, release, and launch of all closures within the Mahindra product range, including side doors, hoods, decklids, charge ports, and associated hardware.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team encompassing marketing, design, and vehicle engineering, prioritizing the overall vehicle benefits over individual systems.
  • Supplier Engagement: Partner with closure suppliers to ensure technical excellence and timely delivery of Mahindra closure systems.
  • Tool Development: Utilize and enhance efficient tools and innovative strategies to support development efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

The Manager for Closures Engineering Design (BIW & Mechanisms) is accountable for supporting and executing a robust vision, strategy, and business plan for a diverse and expanding team, which includes:

  • Strategic Leadership: Formulate, communicate, and implement the vision for the Closures Engineering Design Mechanisms & BIW Team as outlined by senior management, aligning with Mahindra's overarching goals and objectives.
  • Business Management: Achieve all key performance indicators (KPIs), including program timing, cost and quality enhancements, intellectual property management, budget adherence, personnel development, and corporate culture. Establish goals for all direct reports.

Oversee tasks and projects to align with the team's work plan, ensuring all objectives and budgetary allocations are met for the Closures Engineering Design Mechanisms & BIW R&D budget.

  • Team Management: Support the annual teamwork plan and budget in alignment with Mahindra Detroit's Engineering team's vision.

Ensure timely execution of administrative functions such as purchasing requests, timecards, vacation requests, and travel arrangements.

  • Vehicle Development Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert in Automotive Closure Mechanisms & BIW Systems, ensuring adherence to the vehicle development process from concept to post-production while meeting customer requirements. Conduct competitive benchmarking, detailed engineering cost/weight analysis, and manage drawing releases and engineering orders, all while meeting safety and regulatory standards.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Advocate for both internal and external customers, fostering collaboration with various departments including Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, and Quality. Build effective relationships across all organizational levels.
  • Technology Development: Support the assessment and development of new technologies, creating technical roadmaps and strategies for implementation in production vehicles.
  • Effective Communication: Collaborate with various teams within Mahindra and its affiliates, providing updates and presentations to senior management while maintaining project status reports.
  • Budgeting and Resource Management: Assist in the development of the R&D budget, ensuring optimal resource utilization and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Travel may be required up to 20% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
  • Managerial Duties: Oversee the training, evaluation, and support of team members, manage workloads, and address grievances.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (minimum), with a master's degree preferred.
  • 12-15 years of experience in automotive vehicle design and development, with progressive project and team management responsibilities.
  • 3+ years of experience managing an engineering department or section.
  • Extensive expertise in automotive areas such as closures, mechanisms, CAE, testing, and quality.
  • Experience in culturally diverse team environments and a willingness to learn new interaction methods.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Proficiency in CATIA, CAE, or similar systems.
  • Strong project management skills and flexibility in adapting to program and process changes.
  • Expertise in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
