Geotechnical Project Manager

Position Overview

The Geotechnical Project Manager oversees a variety of geotechnical initiatives for private land development clients. These projects encompass planning, design, and management tailored for industrial, commercial, and residential sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engages with clients to ascertain site requirements and provides insights on the design of complex geotechnical investigations, pavement assessments, slope designs, retaining structures, foundations, and pavement solutions.
  • Sets project objectives and aids in achieving quality assurance and quality control targets.
  • Leads and manages daily operational tasks for the execution of Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) projects.
  • Collaborates with project architects, civil and structural engineers, and other technical personnel for effective project development and delivery.
  • Administers project budgets and evaluates project profitability, revenue, margins, billing rates, and resource utilization.
  • Facilitates team meetings and assesses project progress.
  • Prepares billing information for clients on assigned projects and oversees collection of outstanding receivables.
  • Identifies additional project scope and revenue opportunities and engages in business development efforts.
  • Drafts and/or reviews project proposals, change orders, and manages overall project scope.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with clients regarding project status.
  • Mentors team members and fosters strong client relationships.
  • Supervises drilling operations and laboratory testing for projects.
  • Performs other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications

Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Possession of a Michigan Professional Engineer (P.E.) License or eligibility to obtain one.
Experience and Knowledge
  • A minimum of 3 years in project management, with a preference for experience in healthcare, residential, commercial, or industrial land development projects.
  • At least 10 years of relevant geotechnical experience in site development, including foundation design, soil bearing capacity assessments, construction and pavement design recommendations, budgeting, and various site development aspects.
  • Familiarity with codes, regulations, and standards pertinent to geotechnical design and construction for major site development projects in Michigan.
  • Proficient in standard software applications used for geotechnical engineering design and management (e.g., Microsoft Office).
