Geotechnical Project Manager

Overview

The Geotechnical Project Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing various geotechnical initiatives for clients in private land development. This position encompasses the planning, design, and management of projects across industrial, commercial, and residential sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engages with clients to ascertain site specifications and offers insights on the design of complex geotechnical assessments, pavement evaluations, slope designs, retaining structures, foundations, and pavement solutions.
  • Sets project objectives and aids in meeting quality assurance and quality control targets.
  • Leads and manages daily operational tasks related to the execution of Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) projects.
  • Collaborates with project architects, civil and structural engineers, and other technical personnel to ensure effective project development and delivery.
  • Oversees project financials, including budget management, profitability analysis, revenue tracking, billing rates, and resource utilization.
  • Facilitates team meetings and conducts project evaluations.
  • Prepares billing documentation for clients on assigned projects and manages the collection of outstanding receivables.
  • Identifies potential additional project scopes and revenue opportunities, participating in business development efforts.
  • Drafts and/or reviews project proposals, change orders, and manages overall project scope.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with clients regarding project progress.
  • Mentors team members and fosters strong relationships with clients.
  • Supervises drilling operations and laboratory testing for projects.
  • Performs other assigned duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Possession of a Michigan Professional Engineer (P.E.) License or the ability to obtain one.

Knowledge and Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of project management experience, preferably in healthcare, residential, commercial, or industrial land development projects.
  • At least 10 years of relevant geotechnical experience in site development, including foundation design, soil bearing capacity assessments, construction, and pavement design recommendations.
  • Familiarity with codes, regulations, and standards pertinent to geotechnical design and construction for major site development projects in Michigan.
  • Proficient in standard software applications used for geotechnical engineering design and management (e.g., Microsoft Office).

Physical Demands

Work is primarily conducted in an office environment, with some outdoor work required for the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites, or public works facilities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary for operating drafting instruments, computers, and various office equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may also be required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and communicate verbally or audibly. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
