Plumber Mechanic Helper

Job Overview:

The role involves supporting the Plumbing Mechanic by supplying, holding, or utilizing materials and tools as needed. The position requires maintaining cleanliness in the work area, tools, and equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Measure, cut, and assemble new piping, positioning the assembled components as instructed.
  • Drill or cut openings in walls or floors to facilitate pipe installation.
  • Assist in the installation, repair, and replacement of fixtures and water heaters; identify and rectify leaking or damaged pipes.
  • Support the plumber in the layout, assembly, and installation of piping systems for air, gas, and water.
  • Utilize hand tools to fit or assist in fitting valves, couplings, or assemblies to various systems.
  • Install brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings to secure pipes, and set supports for piping.
  • Disassemble and remove any damaged or worn piping.
  • Clean pipes using chemical solutions to eliminate dirt, oil, and scale.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations as required.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Completion of a trade or technical school program or apprenticeship is advantageous. A minimum of one to three years of experience as a plumber's helper in commercial or light industrial environments is essential. Proficiency in the safe use of power tools and equipment commonly found in the construction industry is necessary.

MATH SKILLS

Basic mathematical skills are required, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The ability to perform calculations involving American currency and weight measurements is essential.

REASONING ABILITY

Must be able to apply common sense to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and address problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

A valid Driver's License is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be capable of climbing ladders, lifting and carrying over 50 pounds, distinguishing colors for electrical tasks, and working in confined spaces. The role may involve exposure to heights and varying seasonal temperatures.
