Position Overview:

The role of Plumbing Mechanic Helper involves supporting the Plumbing Mechanic by providing assistance with tools and materials. The individual will be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Measure, cut, and assemble piping, placing it as directed.
  • Drill or cut openings in walls or floors to facilitate pipe installation.
  • Assist in the installation, repair, and replacement of plumbing fixtures and water heaters; identify and address leaks or damaged pipes.
  • Support the plumber in the layout and installation of piping systems for various utilities.
  • Utilize hand tools to fit valves, couplings, and assemblies to tanks and systems.
  • Install brackets and hangers to secure pipes in place.
  • Remove and replace damaged or worn piping.
  • Clean pipes using chemical solutions to eliminate contaminants.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Respond to urgent service calls as required.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED is required. Completion of a trade or technical school program is advantageous. A minimum of one to three years of experience as a plumbing helper in commercial or light industrial environments is essential. Proficiency in using power tools and equipment safely is necessary.

Mathematical Skills:

Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, are required. The ability to perform calculations involving American currency and measurements is necessary.

Reasoning Ability:

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to understand and follow detailed instructions, both written and verbal, and to address problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates and Licenses:

A valid Driver's License is required.

Physical Requirements:

The role requires the ability to climb ladders, lift and carry weights of 50 pounds or more, differentiate colors for electrical tasks, and work in confined spaces. The position may involve exposure to heights and varying temperatures.
