Plumber Mechanic Helper
Job Summary:
The role involves supporting the Plumbing Mechanic by providing assistance with tools and materials. The individual is expected to maintain cleanliness in the work area, tools, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Measure, cut, and assemble new piping, positioning the assembled sections as instructed.
- Drill or cut openings in walls or floors to facilitate pipe installation.
- Conduct rough-ins, repair, and replace plumbing fixtures and water heaters; identify and fix leaking or damaged pipes.
- Assist in the layout, assembly, and installation of piping systems for air, gas, and water.
- Help fit valves, couplings, or assemblies to tanks and pumps using hand tools.
- Install brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings to secure pipes. Set supports for pipes as needed.
- Remove and dispose of damaged or worn piping.
- Clean pipes using chemical solutions to eliminate dirt and scale.
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment.
- Respond to urgent service calls as required.
- Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is required. Completion of a trade or technical school program is advantageous. A minimum of one to three years of experience as a plumber's helper in commercial or light industrial environments is essential. Proficiency in safely using power tools and equipment commonly found in the construction industry is necessary.
Mathematical Skills:
Basic math skills are required, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to perform calculations involving American currency and measurements.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions. Capable of addressing problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
A valid Driver's License is required.
Physical Demands:
The position requires the ability to climb ladders, lift and carry over 50 pounds, distinguish colors for electrical tasks, and work in confined spaces. The job may involve exposure to heights and varying seasonal temperatures.
