Position Overview:
The role of the Plumbing Mechanic Helper involves providing essential support to the Plumbing Mechanic by supplying, holding, or utilizing necessary materials and tools. Maintaining a clean and organized work environment is a key responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Measure, cut, and assemble new piping, positioning it as instructed.
- Drill or cut openings in walls or floors to facilitate pipe installation.
- Assist in the installation, repair, and replacement of fixtures and water heaters; identify and fix leaking or damaged pipes.
- Support the plumber in the layout, assembly, and installation of piping systems for air, gas, and water.
- Utilize hand tools to fit valves, couplings, or assemblies to various systems.
- Install brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings to secure pipes, and set supports for piping.
- Remove and dispose of damaged or worn piping.
- Clean pipes using chemical solutions to eliminate dirt and debris.
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment.
- Respond to urgent service calls as required.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is required. Completion of a trade or technical school program or apprenticeship is advantageous. A minimum of one to three years of experience as a plumber's helper in commercial or light industrial environments is essential. Proficiency in using power tools and equipment safely is required.
Mathematical Skills:
Basic math skills are necessary, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to perform calculations involving American currency and measurements.
Reasoning Ability:
Must possess the ability to apply common sense to follow detailed instructions and solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates and Licenses:
A valid Driver's License is required.
Physical Requirements:
The position requires the ability to climb ladders, lift and carry over 50 pounds, distinguish colors for electrical tasks, and work in confined spaces. The role may involve exposure to heights and varying seasonal temperatures.
