Position Overview:

Amherst College is seeking applications for the role of Casual Catering Assistant. This is a part-time, casual position that offers a competitive hourly wage of $18.00, without benefits. The ideal candidate will actively contribute to supporting a diverse community and will demonstrate their commitment to inclusivity.

The Casual Catering Assistant plays a vital role in the Catering Department, ensuring exceptional service is provided at various campus events. This position emphasizes the importance of a respectful and welcoming work environment, contributing to the overall mission of the College.

The individual in this role will be dedicated to delivering high-quality customer service and will assist the catering team with the preparation, delivery, setup, service, and breakdown of events. Responsibilities include ensuring that all food items, serving utensils, and menu signage are ready for service, while maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment. The Casual Catering Assistant will work collaboratively with team members to meet and exceed customer expectations.

The work schedule is flexible and will align with the operational needs of the College, which may include morning and evening shifts. Given the nature of the work, a flexible schedule is essential, as the position may require reporting to work during college closures.

Key Responsibilities:

Catering Events:

  • Collaborate with the catering team to prepare, organize, transport, and deliver food, beverages, and supplies; ensure proper setup and breakdown of all catering elements.
  • Operate dishwashing equipment and perform manual dishwashing as needed during events.
  • Maintain cleanliness of floors and ensure sanitation of kitchen and storage areas.
  • Vacuum and clean carpeted areas within catering spaces.
Storage and Assembly Areas:
  • Ensure organization and sanitation of catering supplies and equipment.
  • Perform various cleaning and organizational tasks as assigned.
Communication and Administrative Duties:
  • Regularly check for departmental communications to stay informed about updates and events.
  • Utilize management software to track work hours, request time off, and manage personal information.
Qualifications:

Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for educational requirements.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary for operating college vehicles.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical/lift test.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service abilities.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community.
Preferred:
  • Experience driving cargo vans.
  • Two years of experience in food service.
  • Previous catering experience.
