Position Overview:
Amherst College is inviting applications for the role of Casual Catering Assistant. This is a part-time, casual role offering a competitive hourly wage of $18.00. The ideal candidate will actively contribute to fostering a diverse community and will be dedicated to providing exceptional service.
The Casual Catering Assistant plays a vital role in the Catering Department, ensuring that events on campus are executed with excellence. This position emphasizes the importance of a respectful and inclusive workplace.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to quality service and will assist the catering team in various tasks, including preparation, delivery, setup, service, and breakdown of events. Responsibilities include ensuring that all food items, serving utensils, and menu signage are prepared for service, while maintaining a clean and sanitary environment. The individual will work collaboratively with team members to meet and exceed customer expectations.
The work schedule is flexible and will align with the operational needs of the College, which may include morning and evening shifts. As this role is essential to campus life, the candidate may be required to work during College closures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation, organization, transportation, and delivery of catering supplies, food, and beverages; ensure proper setup and breakdown of all catering elements.
- Operate dishwashing equipment and perform manual dishwashing as necessary during events.
- Maintain cleanliness in kitchen and storage areas, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
- Ensure the organization and sanitation of catering supplies and equipment.
- Regularly check for departmental communications to stay informed about updates and events.
- Utilize Workday for managing work schedules, time-off requests, and personal information.
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Relevant work experience may substitute for educational requirements.
- A valid driver's license is necessary for operating College vehicles.
- Pre-employment physical and lift test.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment.
- Experience with cargo van operation.
- Two years of experience in food service.
- Previous catering experience.
