Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Registration Specialist to join our team at the University of Maryland Faculty Physicians. As a key member of our patient service team, you will be responsible for ensuring that patient registration and insurance information is complete and accurate, and that our patients receive the best possible care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Registration: Promptly respond to faxes and requests received from departments regarding patient registration or insurance information.
  • File Maintenance: Maintain a file of all resolved and pending requests for information from departments, consistently following the FPI patient confidentiality policy.
  • Customer Service: Listen to patient needs, concerns, and problems before responding, and respond professionally.
  • Financial Counseling: Follow department protocols to assess needs for financial counseling (e.g. no insurance, large balance) and direct to financial counseling representative.
  • Insurance Verification: Follow the department protocols to verify insurance coverage for all patients prior to date of service within established practice timeframe.
  • Subscriber and Insurance Rules: Follow subscriber and insurance rules in order to verify eligibility of primary insurance coverage.
  • Other Insurance Verification: Verify other insurance to determine eligibility and status.
  • Medical Office Coverage: Verify medical office coverage based on scheduled services.
  • Benefit Coverage: Verify benefit coverage of high cost, frequently denied and/or experimental services.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Experience: One to two years medical experience.
  • Knowledge: Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and preauthorization.
  • Skills: Strong customer service skills, PC proficiency, and medical terminology preferred.
