This role as a Senior Power Electronics Engineer - Application Technical Lead focuses on the integration of variable speed drives into HVAC systems produced by Trane Commercial Systems, while providing technical guidance to the Power Electronics Applications Team.

This position allows for a Hybrid work arrangement (3 days/week on-site) at our Engineering & Technology Center.


Core Job Responsibilities:

- Oversee all application aspects of power electronic devices for Trane Commercial Products manufactured in North America, including new product development and lifecycle maintenance.
- Make recommendations for device selection and sizing, define application specifications, and conduct component-level qualifications.
- Tune drive/motor pairings and adjust parameter settings.
- Mentor and onboard team members in power electronics applications.
- Develop standard operating procedures and best practices.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert to resolve complex issues in the field and production facilities.
- Participate as an independent reviewer in project design and technical reviews.
- Qualify Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for use in Trane Commercial HVAC products.
- Apply variable speed drives to HVAC equipment, particularly for compressors and fans.
- Interface unit-level controls and safety features with the drive.
- Optimize VFD cooling tailored to specific product requirements.
- Analyze motor-drive compatibility and fine-tune the electrical system for peak performance.
- Draft specifications for electrical components within the motor-drive system.
- Conduct qualification testing for the motor-drive system.
- Provide ongoing lifecycle support for the product, addressing field and factory issues as they arise.
- Some overnight travel may be required, approximately 5-10%.


Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 7 years of experience in variable frequency drive applications is essential.
- A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering is advantageous.
